Class descriptions and offerings below are for all sessions. If classes do not meet minimum enrollment, they may be cancelled. We make every attempt to fill all our classes. Please see above for registration information.



Infants/Toddlers

Penguin

(Age 6-26 months) Designed to teach parents methods of working with their child in the water and developing water safety skills. Both parents may accompany their child. NOTE: The Penguin program is combined with the Polar Bear program.

Polar Bear

(Age 27 months-4 years) Will prepare you and your child for their first independent water experience. Parents will work with the instructor to develop water safety and peer interaction skills. Parent/s participation required. NOTE: Th e Polar Bear program is combined with the Penguin program.

3 YEAR OLDS


Tadpole

Designed to be a 3 year old’s first independent water experience. Child must be able to get into the pool without a parent. For 3-year-olds not yet independent, please enroll in our Infant/Toddler program. NOTE: On occasion, the Tadpole program is combined with the Guppy program.

Guppy

Prerequisites: Listening and following directions; water enjoyment and participation in class; climbing in and out of the pool; putting face in water; clearing water from face and eyes; putting head underwater and holding breath or blowing bubbles, 3 seconds; assisted front float; assisted back float. NOTE: On occasion, the Guppy program is combined with either the Tadpole program or the Goldfish program.

Goldfish

Prerequisites: putting head under water and holding breath, 5 seconds; bobbing with rhythmic inhalation and exhalation; independent front float, 5 seconds; front glide, 4feet; front glide with flutter kick, 6 feet; beginning front crawl, 8 feet: independent front float, rolling over to assisted back float; assisted back float; jump into shallow water, return to starting point. NOTE: On occasion, the Goldfish program is combined with the Guppy program.


4-5 YEAR OLDS


Shrimp

A class designed for a 4-5 year old’s first water experience. Child must be able to get into the pool without a parent present. For 4-year-olds not yet independent, please enroll in the Polar Bears program. NOTE: On occasion, the Shrimp program is combined with the Clam program.

Clam

NOTE: On occasion, the Oyster program is combined with either the Clam program or the Starfish program. WILL NOT BE OFFERED INDIVIDUALLY FAll 2022!


Starfish

Prerequisites: Front glide with fl utter kick, 15 feet; beginning front crawl, 20 feet; roll over by taking a single arm stroke; independent back fl oat, 20 seconds, with recovery; back glide with fl utter kick, 10 feet; elementary backstroke with fl utter kick, 20 feet; jump into shallow or deep water, return to pool

6+ YEAR OLDS


Angelfi sh

Prerequisites: A class designed for the first time student 6 years of age and older. Must be comfortable enough to enter water with minimal assistance. If your child is hesitant or fearful of the water, please notify the registrar.

elementary backstroke with fl utter kick, 25 yards; jump off diving board, swim to pool edge; treading water, 20 seconds; underwater swim, 6 feet. NOTE: On occasion, the Trout program is combined with either the Catfi sh program or the Salmon program.

Salmon

Prerequisites: Front crawl with side breathing, 25 yards; back crawl, 25 yards; elementary backstroke with whip
kick, 15 yards; treading water, 30 seconds; underwater swimming, 10 feet. NOTE: On occasion, the Salmon program is combined with either the Trout program or the Sea Lion program, space permitting.

Sea Lion

Prerequisites: Front crawl with side breathing, 50 yards; front crawl with alternate side breathing, 25 yards; back crawl, 50 yards; elementary backstroke, 25 yards; treading water, 45 seconds; combined skill: head first surface dive, swim underwater 3 yards, surface, tread water 30 seconds, return to pool edge using front crawl. NOTE: Will be combined with either the Salmon program or the Swordfish program, space permitting. Waitlist only. See swim team for possible offerings. 


Swordfish

Prerequisites: Front crawl with alternate side breathing, 75 yards; back crawl, 75 yards; elementary backstroke, 50 yards; beginning breaststroke; treading water, 60 seconds; combined skill: feet first entry, 100 yard swim using any combination of strokes, survival float 90 seconds, return to starting point. Waitlist only. See swim team for possible offerings.

Porpoise

Prerequisites: Front crawl with alternate side breathing, 100 yards; back crawl, 100 yards; elementary backstroke, 75 yards; breaststroke, 25 yards; beginning sidestroke; treading water, 90 seconds; combined skills: 5 minute continuous swim, using any combination of strokes. NOTE: Th e Porpoise program is frequently combined with the Whale program. WILL NOT BE OFFERED INDIVIDUALLY FAll 2022!


Whale

Prerequisites: Front crawl with alternate side breathing, 150 yards; back crawl, 125 yards; elementary backstroke, 100 yards; breaststroke, 50 yards; sidestroke, 25 yards; combined skills: 10 minute continuous swim, using any combination of strokes. NOTE: The Whale program is frequently combined with the Porpoise program.
WILL NOT BE OFFERED INDIVIDUALLY FALL 2022!


Beginning Middle School

Designed for students 11 years of age and older, this class will teach the beginning front crawl, elementary backstroke with fl utter kick, and water safety. Th is class will also introduce the student to deep water. NOTE: Th e Beginning Middle School program and the Intermediate Middle School program are frequently combined.
