Lifeguard

Department:  Aquatics

Title:  Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous – 10-30 Hours per week(varies)

​Become part of our team!  River Road Park and Recreation District is always open to receiving applications for part-time lifeguards!  Experienced lifeguards are encouraged to apply.  Day time, evening and, possibly weekend hours may be available.  A.R.C., E.A. and/or StarGuard certification required.

Not certified?  River Road Park and Recreation District offers a StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program, to be determined each season (winter, spring, summer, fall).  Interested candidates are encouraged to apply so as to be on an “interest list” for the 26 hours week-long lifeguard training program. 

SEE SAMPLE SCHEDULE BELOW-- NOTE:  A portion of the StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program is “on-line”.  Candidates will be hired upon successful completion of the course.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE -26 hours training program , with required on-line component, to be completed BEFORE class and pool schedule, and attendance is REQUIRED of all course sessions.

General “In-Person” Course Days (normally 4 days in the same week):  

     

CLASS ONE – 5 hours

CLASS TWO – 5 hours

CLASS THREE – 8 hours

CLASS FOUR – 8 hours         

Cost of Course:    $120.00   (will includes all course materials.)

  

Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites:

Sixteen (16) years of age

Ability to swim 100 yards

Ability to perform a feet first surface dive to a depth of twelve feet (12’)

Swim Lesson Instructor

Department:  Aquatics

Title:  Swim Instructor

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous –  3-6 Hours per week(varies through year)

Help us rebuild our swim instructor team! River Road Park and Recreation District is looking for Swim Instructors, preferably with 1 year or more experience, and/or has WSI.  For those without experience but interested we will be offering our in-house training program!!

The general time we are looking for swim instructors is :

Evening classes -Monday and Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 pm, and/or

Tuesday and Thursday nights, 6:30-8:00 pm. 

Saturday mid-morning classes 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.

Title:  Head Age Group Coach

Reports to: Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous – 5-15 Hours per week (varies through year)

Join our team and help us continue to rebuild the River Road Swim Team! River Road Park and Recreation District is looking for a Head Age Group Coach, preferably with 1 year or more experience, and current US Swimming certifications. 

Practice time is Monday -Friday 5:15-6:15pm with occasional weekends for swim meets and other team duties.

AQUATIC SUPERVISOR           

 

General Statement of Duties: 

The Aquatic Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Aquatic Director with the development, supervision, oversight, and operation of the aquatic facility including all facets of effective aquatic programming that serve the needs of the River Road Park and Recreation District community. These aspects include, but are not limited to: the selection, training and supervision of staff; development, oversight and management of a comprehensive aquatic risk management program; development, oversight and evaluation of programs that address fitness, educational, competitive and recreational interests; staff scheduling and facility bookings. Adheres to District policies and procedures and the State of Oregon Health Department Public Swimming Pool/Spa Rules. Exercises professional judgment with considerable latitude for independent action in all phases of job responsibilities as identified under Areas of Responsibilities.

Recreation Director

               

 General Statement of Duties: 

The Recreation Director is responsible for the coordination of a comprehensive recreation program that includes leadership, planning, and management of all Recreation District programs. Responds to community expectations by providing exceptional programs and services to satisfy the needs of the greater River Road Park and Recreation District community. These aspects include, but are not limited to: the selection, training and supervision of staff; development, oversight and management of a comprehensive recreation program; development, oversight and evaluation of programs that address fitness, educational, competitive and recreational interests; staff scheduling and facility bookings. Directly supervises the Youth Program Supervisor, Senior Program Supervisor, Gymnastic Program Supervisor, and Adult Program Supervisor. Effectively oversees financial departmental management; adheres to District policies and procedures and may manage and oversee personnel and HR matters according to established policies and procedures. Exercises professional judgment with considerable latitude for independent action in all phases of job responsibilities as identified under Areas of Responsibilities. May serve as Superintendent in his/her absence.

Customer Service

Reports to:  Office Supervisor

Position length:  20 Hours weekly

 

Position Purpose

              Responsible for general customer service to the public.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Greets and welcome the public in a professional manner. Answers multi-line telephone.

  2. Performs all areas of computerized registration, handles refunds, facility reservations, phone registration, monthly billings and late notices.  Notifies participants of program/class cancelations or changes.

  3. Provides internal and external customer service. 

  4. Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly both verbal and written.

  5. Must be efficient in problem solving in the workplace. Anticipating, preventing, and identifying issues and solving them in a professional manner.

  6. Schedules facility rentals.

  7. Maintains regular attendance.

  8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Abilities

  1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with the public and staff in a professional, polite manner.  Deal effectively with difficult situations and complaints.

  2. Good knowledge of general office practices and procedures; phone etiquette; basic business math, spelling, proofreading, English and grammar.

  3. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of patrons needs.

  4. Deal effectively with frequent interruptions; perform work accurately with attention to detail.

  5. Skill in handling money and making change.

  6. Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written directions, to learn assigned tasks readily, adhere to prescribed routines, and work independently in accordance with established park policy.

  7. Extensive knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft word and excel.

  8. Ability to learn additional computer programs as needed.

 

 

Working Conditions

              Work is performed primarily inside an office setting.

Minimum Qualifications

              Experience: One year of experience working in customer service.  Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, basic business math, and answering/transferring phone calls.
