Lifeguard

Department:  Aquatics

Title:  Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous – 10-30 Hours per week(varies)

​Become part of our team!  River Road Park and Recreation District is always open to receiving applications for part-time lifeguards!  Experienced lifeguards are encouraged to apply.  Day time, evening and, possibly weekend hours may be available.  A.R.C., E.A. and/or StarGuard certification required.

Not certified?  River Road Park and Recreation District offers a StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program, to be determined each season (winter, spring, summer, fall).  Interested candidates are encouraged to apply so as to be on an “interest list” for the 26 hours week-long lifeguard training program. 

SEE SAMPLE SCHEDULE BELOW-- NOTE:  A portion of the StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program is “on-line”.  Candidates will be hired upon successful completion of the course.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE -26 hours training program , with required on-line component, to be completed BEFORE class and pool schedule, and attendance is REQUIRED of all course sessions.

General “In-Person” Course Days (normally 4 days in the same week):  

     

CLASS ONE – 5 hours

CLASS TWO – 5 hours

CLASS THREE – 8 hours

CLASS FOUR – 8 hours         

Cost of Course:    $120.00   (will includes all course materials.)

  

Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites:

Sixteen (16) years of age

Ability to swim 100 yards

Ability to perform a feet first surface dive to a depth of twelve feet (12’)

Swim Lesson Instructor

Department:  Aquatics

Title:  Swim Instructor

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous –  3-6 Hours per week(varies through year)

Help us rebuild our swim instructor team! River Road Park and Recreation District is looking for Swim Instructors, preferably with 1 year or more experience, and/or has WSI.  For those without experience but interested we will be offering our in-house training program!!

The general time we are looking for swim instructors is :

Evening classes -Monday and Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 pm, and/or

Tuesday and Thursday nights, 6:30-8:00 pm. 

Saturday mid-morning classes 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.

Youth Program Supervisor

 

Department: Recreation

Reports to: Recreation Director

Full Time – $43,500 - $59,652 Annual

 

Position Purpose

Responsible for the management and supervision of all youth recreation programs, classes, activities and events.  Responsible for planning, promoting, implementing, and supervising all youth programming and outreach services, including but not limited to: early childhood education, after school

adventure program, summer camps, and gymnastics.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Direct, manage, and participate in the development, review, implementation and evaluation of all youth recreation programming with the assistance of three youth program coordinators. Program areas include but are not limited to: playschool, preschool, prekindergarten, after school enrichment (ASAP program), summer camps, gymnastics, and all youth classes.

  2. Manages all personnel matters according to established policies and procedures including: hiring, training, supervision, and evaluations of staff and volunteers.

  3. Develops regular class schedules and programming. Oversees input of all youth recreation programs in the Park District computerized registration system.

  4. Ensures compliance with safety, health, personnel, industry and other regulations, by maintaining appropriate records and documentation.

  5. Assists in the preparation of district brochures and flyers.

  6. Responds to staff and public questions, concerns, and requests as needed.

  7. Provides support to staff in planning, promoting, and evaluating special event activities. Coordinate with other departments to ensure setup and cleanup of events.

  8. Other duties as assigned.

  3. Must be able to adapt to a constantly changing and fast paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

  4. Ability to take initiative with minimal supervision.

  5. Proficient in developing program goals, activities, and services to meet the needs of patrons.

  6. Strong skills in oral and written communication.

  7. Proficient principles of supervision and personnel practices to provide leadership to a diverse work force.

  8. Experience in program analysis and record keeping.

  9. Applicable knowledge in the areas of marketing practices and trends.

  10. Working knowledge of computerized recreation software.

 

Working Conditions

Work will be performed in an office setting. The ability to lift and/or setup for events and activities will be required.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field.

Two years leadership and supervisory experience in a public agency. Operational experience with computer registration systems is required.
