Preschool/Prekindergarten - Assistant Instructor

Department: Recreation

Title: Preschool/Prekindergarten Assistant Instructor

Reports to: Youth Program Supervisor

Wage: $16.43 – $17.43 per hour commensurate with experience.

Position Length: 20-25 hours per week

Position Purpose

Assist in Instructing children ages 3-5 in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Help set up classroom daily with play equipment and needed items creating a fun, safe, and caring classroom.

  2. Greet each child and parent on arrival and listen to parent concerns or needs.

  3. Interact with children by playing or observing them and help transition children to new activities.

  4. Listen and watch for any problems that can be diverted.

  5. Demonstrate a caring and encouraging rapport with students. 

  6. Help the children with bathroom duties. 

  7. Encourage good manners at all times.

  8. Supervise, children when going outdoors; maintain constant head count.

  9. Practice emergency plan with class.

  10. Track immunizations and complete needed paperwork.

  11. Be informed of any medical or allergy protocol of children in classroom.

  12. Organize book orders.

Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Prep & implement lesson plan every other week or as required.

  2. Prepare monthly newsletter.

  3. Collect supplies needed and order supplies for lesson plans and snacks; keep classroom organized.

  4. Communicate with co-teachers and director about plans and if I need extra help with crafts etc.

  5. Make sure emergency names and contact numbers are up to date and on hand.

  6. Prepare snack rosters.

  7. Conduct and participate in team meetings/EC Care meetings.

  8. Assist and implement lead instructor with lesson plans for all summer camps.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Early Childhood education or 2+ or more years of experience working with children in a preschool or early childhood development center; must have valid Oregon driver’s license.

Must possess a calm demeanor; exhibit patience; be an upbeat, flexible, spontaneous, effective communicator. Must love children and be mindful of tone of voice used.

ASAP Summer Camp Leader

Department: Recreation
Title: Summer Camp Leader I & II
Reports to: Youth Program Supervisor
Position Length: 30-40 hours per week
Position Purpose
Assist the ASAP Program Coordinator in the implementation of after school or summer camp activities. Oversee kindergarten through fifth grade youth in a recreational setting. Organize and assist in activities for the ASAP and/or Adventure Day Camp Program, a comprehensive recreation program for children in grades kindergarten through fifth.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Implement daily activities for students including arts and crafts projects as well as outdoor activities. Implement activities from set-up through clean-up, utilizing staff aides and volunteers. Assist with field trips, parties and special events.
2. Maintain a high level of safety and discipline within the group, both with the children and the staff.
3. Establish a pleasant and enthusiastic rapport with children, staff and parents.
4. Oversee children in both indoor/outdoor settings.
5. Participate in District safety protocol for all events and programs; enforce District rules and regulations
Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to establish excellent working relations and communication with supervisors, subordinates, and general public.
2. Must possess practical common sense skills while maintaining a strong work ethic and be able to adapt to a constantly changing and fast paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
3. Ability to take initiative with minimal supervision.
4. Safely operate District vehicles to pick up children from local schools. Strong oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to read, write, and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
Minimum Qualifications
GED preferred. Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred. Current Oregon driver’s license required.
Limited Benefits
Wages commensurate with experience, starting at $14.33 - $16.79 per hour. Negotiable depending upon experience.

Gymnastics Coach

RIVER ROAD PARK AND RECREATION DISTRICT
Classification Description
Department: Recreation
Title: Gymnastics/Level Entry Coach
Reports to: Youth Program Supervisor
Position length: Continuous 10-15 hours weekly
Position Purpose
To develop positive relationships with participants, while providing motivational support and guidance; working with other coaches to train, condition, strengthen, and instruct gymnasts. Assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining the schedule, developing rotations, preparing for meets or performances, maintaining the gymnastics office and class records in an orderly, efficient manner; may perform other tasks related to gymnastics coaching.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Instruct students in the sport of gymnastics.
2. Take daily attendance.
3. Possess and maintain proper safety spotting skills.
4. Remain current on gymnastics technique.
5. Design and implement daily, weekly, and/or monthly lesson plans.
6. Pursue continuing gymnastics education from knowledgeable sources
7. Provide daily instruction and spotting of students on all apparatus.
8. Attract and retain new students.
9. Maintain class development and progress.
10. Complete and record gymnast skill checklists
11. Maintain knowledge and implementation of USAG Compulsory skills, routines and progressions.
12. Teach teamwork and sportsmanship.
13. Maintain skill development and create successful students and classes.
14. Teach the highest standards of gymnastic biomechanics in a disciplined, safe, and fun environment.
Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to establish excellent working relations and communication with supervisors, co-workers, and general public.
2. Must possess practical common sense skills while maintaining a strong work ethic.
3. Must be able to adapt to a constantly changing and fast paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

Experience: Previous 1 year + experience coaching or instructing gymnastics.
Certifications Required: Current First Aid/CPR Certification; must have a valid Oregon’s driver’s license.

Lifeguard

Department:  Aquatics

Title:  Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous – 10-30 Hours per week(varies)

​Become part of our team!  River Road Park and Recreation District is always open to receiving applications for part-time lifeguards!  Experienced lifeguards are encouraged to apply.  Day time, evening and, possibly weekend hours may be available.  A.R.C., E.A. and/or StarGuard certification required.

Not certified?  River Road Park and Recreation District offers a StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program, to be determined each season (winter, spring, summer, fall).  Interested candidates are encouraged to apply so as to be on an “interest list” for the 26 hours week-long lifeguard training program. 

SEE SAMPLE SCHEDULE BELOW-- NOTE:  A portion of the StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program is “on-line”.  Candidates will be hired upon successful completion of the course.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE -26 hours training program , with required on-line component, to be completed BEFORE class and pool schedule, and attendance is REQUIRED of all course sessions.

General “In-Person” Course Days (normally 4 days in the same week):  

     

CLASS ONE – 5 hours

CLASS TWO – 5 hours

CLASS THREE – 8 hours

CLASS FOUR – 8 hours         

Cost of Course:    $120.00   (will includes all course materials.)

  

Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites:

Sixteen (16) years of age

Ability to swim 100 yards

Ability to perform a feet first surface dive to a depth of twelve feet (12’)

Swim Lesson Instructor

Title:  Swim Instructor

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Director

Position length:  Continuous –  3-6 Hours per week(varies through year)

Help us rebuild our swim instructor team! River Road Park and Recreation District is looking for Swim Instructors, preferably with 1 year or more experience, and/or has WSI.  For those without experience but interested we will be offering our in-house training program!!

The general time we are looking for swim instructors is :

Evening classes -Monday and Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 pm, and/or

Tuesday and Thursday nights, 6:30-8:00 pm. 

Saturday mid-morning classes 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.
