AARP Driver Safety

This driver safety course has been designed for motorists 50 and older, but is now open to all ages. In Oregon, auto insurance discounts are available to participants 55 and up who complete the 8 hour class. Seniors must repeat the class every two to three years (depending on age) to qualify for insurance discounts. There are no tests. Fee collected first day by the instructor.

Income Tax Assistance

For tax payers 60+ with low to moderate inocmes with simple returns only. Tax payers with complex returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance. Trained volunteers, through AARP’s Tax Aide Program, will help you with your federal and state income tax forms. Bring W-2 forms, records of any other earnings and a copy of last year’s return. If itemizing, bring a list of expenses. Individuals with complex forms or tax assistance needs may be referred to professional tax preparers. Phone the park for an appointment. Held at Emerald Park (1400 Lake Drive).

Flavors of the NW in Winter / Spring
Join Lane’s Culinary Arts Program chef instructors to experience the bounty, distinct tastes, flavors and nuances of foods from the Pacific Northwest during the transition time from winter into spring. All ingredients provided for this hands-on class. Please wear closed toe shoes.

Fun & Easy Online Social Networking
Tweeting, blogging and YouTube aren’t only for the young. Good humor and support will be on generous supply as you explore these tools. Then create your own Facebook page and invite family and friends to join you there. Pre-requisite: Basic computer skills and web navigation skills.

American Indian Cultures: Then & Now
Celebrate the rich and varied legacy of Native American peoples of our region. Enjoy presentations and demonstrations by several local leaders involving drumming and dancing, the Pow Wow, beading, sewing moccasins and other traditional clothing and flintnapping – the making of arrowheads.

Get in Tune with the Classics
Listen to glorious melodies from selected composers ranging from Mozart to Gershwin, and discover the world events that influenced their work. Enjoy your next symphony experience with a newly informed and inspired ear. Live music from a local quintet is scheduled.

NW Treats, Tweets, & Pow Wows

Enjoy a teasing taste of this term's “Boomers & Beyond Saturday Series,” including hands-on classes in NW seasonal cooking, classical music spanning Mozart and Gershwin, online social networking and American Indian Cultures. Through lecture, photos, and videos, experience the Lane Community College annual POW WOW and progress towards creation of an authentic longhouse. Then register for the Series classes in these areas, to be offered this March in collaboration with LCC. Presenters: Richard Archambault and Barbara Susman, Successful Aging Institute, LCC. Held at Emerald Park.
