Parent-Child Yoga (6 wks)

Recommended for children ages 5 and up. Allow Min Yi and her seven year old son, Jing Wen, to share their love of yoga with you and your child. Simple, fun and healthful poses will delight and inspire the whole family. Bring a mat or blanket for each participant.

Held at Madison Middle School. A class to help you gain greater energy and mental focus through the use of posture and breath. Strength, flexibility and balance are enhanced. Glenda's own version of yoga specifically strengthens the pelvic floor muscles, adds awareness of the inner body, quickens the metabolism and increases deep relaxation. All levels welcome as every pose can be modified to suit
individual needs. Glenda King is an experienced yoga instructor of 27 years

Women’s Yoga (10 wks)

Women’s yoga is a class made up of yogic-style exercises that help to balance a woman’s cycle and sexuality. Some topics to be addressed are: postpartum recover, chronic fatigue, regulation of monthly cycle, sexual responsiveness and sensitivity, chronic back pain and menopause.

Yoga & Stress Management (10 wks)

Stress management means optimizing ones energy levels. Yoga postures and deep relaxation rebalances the system. Awareness of body, emotions and mind can help us enjoy our own life rather than seek an escape. The focus is on relaxation and stress management while ensuring enough structural body work is done to see an increase in flexibility, stamina and strength. These exercises are designed also to be integrated into life in the office. This is based on proven techniques which you can use daily. Also practical meditation tips on improving concentration, mental focus, preparing for presentations etc are included. By the end of the class students should feel more relaxed and energized. Power / Flow Yoga (9 wks)

A dynamic blend of yoga styles using elements of Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Bikram. The energizing series of postures will revitalize the whole body. Learn to develop strength and stamina, increase flexibility, balance and focus as you reduce stress and tension. The postures flow in a rhythmic pattern with the breath and provide a complete workout including some pilates and core conditioning - all set to inspiring music and ending with a guided mediation & deep relaxation. Warm up focusing on breathing, sun salutations, standing series with balance, floor work - various postures, core work, stretching, cool down and deep relaxation.

New Class: Beginner Basics Yoga And Meditation Combo

In this friendly, encouraging and safe environment students explore simple yoga movements and meditation with great success. Beginner Basics is a foundation class designed to introduce yoga and meditation to anyone regardless of age and condition. Students learn yogic breathing, movement categories or asanas seated or on the mat, basic philosophy, inner focus, integration and awareness. Learn specific yogic techniques for quieting the mind and focusing inward to develop clarity and inner calm. These are time tested methods for improving concentration, focus and clarity thereby reducing anxiety, worry and mental chatter. This yogic approach teaches students how to create a sacred space, practice regularly, refine breathing, utilize mantra repetition, and follow guided meditation. Chair Yoga is also a social activity that helps to stimulate the mind and body in a positive way. This becomes an uplifting activity that participants look forward to. Regular attendance, and socializing in Chair Yoga classes, is a healthy activity that leads to building strong relationships. Chair Yoga can easily work in harmony with most physical rehabilitation prescriptions. Many physical therapists have knowledge of Yoga or are teachers of Yoga. This new class offers an excellent introduction to Tai Chi and Qigong (cultivation of energy). senior programTai Chi Beg: Moving For Better Balance (10 wks)

This eight form tai chi derived from traditional 24 form set is based on scientific studies and is designed to help improve balance and prevent falls. All movements adhere to fundamental principles of Tai Chi: involving weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing stances, good body alignment and coordinated movements conducted in a continuous, circular and flowing motion. Movement coordinates with the inhale/exhale breathing cycle. Movements are taught in sets which can be performed separately and linked to form a sequential routine. This exercise program has been recommended by the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an effective community-based intervention to prevent falls for older adults (CDC-2008). Other benefits: social and mental well-being, balance and daily physical functioning, self-confidence in performing daily activities, personal independence and quality of life and overall health. Yang Tai Chi And Tai Chi Qigong For Health and Fitness - Int. (10 wks)

Yang Tai Chi is a meditation art intended to promote the smooth flow of Chi (life force) throughout the body. Tai Chi is excellent for balance, flexibility, endurance, cardio-vascular
efficiency and muscle strength. It helps with arthritis and other problems associated with aging. The easy 24 movement Yang form is taught along with meditation sets based on the form and the Tai Chi Chi Kung 13 movement set. The Tai Chi ruler movement sets are also explored. Tai Chi Sword For Health & Fitness (10 wks)

Tai Chi Sword combined with Qigong (Internal Work) and Tai Chi principles improve strength and fitness. Good for overall health, joint flexibility, and cardio-vascular functions. Emphasis is on mediation. Movements are slow and easy to perform. Learn the short, medium and long forms. Sword forms are based on Yang and Chen Styles of Tai Chi. Students practice at their own pace. Light Tai Chi wood practice swords are used in preparation for the eventual use of traditional metal swords. Held at the River Road Annex (1055 River Road).
